Personally I love the Beatles.

Stones are great musicians and are still around, but The Beatles were some of the best songwriters of all time. I feel like their music had so much more meaning.

I only like the late Beatles and I have select favorites from the Stones. I'm going to go with the Beatles, because at least they can actually sing

One third of the time, I love the Stones. The other two thirds, I can't stand them.

The Beatles are the most widely recognized band of all time and have made the most money internationally.

To sum it up, I like some of the Stones stuff more, but I like the Beatles overall.

I don't really like the beatles. I feel they are quite over rated. they're not bad, but they're not that good. I'll go stones on that count. but I'm not saying they're the bomb either

The Beatles. They're my second favorite band and were probably the most influential band of all time.

Personally I think the Stones kind of suck. I've never really liked anything they did all THAT much. They just kind of sound the same as a bunch of other rock bands.

Moved to artists.

Stones do have some good classics. (Sympathy for the Devil, Satisfaction, You Can't Always Get What You Want, etc.)

But they don't have as many good songs as the Beatles. Nor do their songs carry the meaning or mysterious intrigue of those done by the Beatles.

They're not bad, so to say, they're just not as good as people make them out to be.

I disagree. I listen to the dead, and I'm not a deadhead. Yes they had a following(not a cult) but they also had casual listeners and still do. Hell they still tour and sell out every venue they do.

Have you ever been to a Dead concert? I haven't, but apparently its just as bad as ever. The cult following dominates.

Umm you're an idiot. It's not a cult. It's a group of people that follow them around the country and enjoy their music. Not a cult. I'm sorry for calling you an idiot, but it's about all I could think of to explain it. Razz

You can't say deadheads aren't a cult.

And I'm not saying everyone there is cultish, just that the cult following exists and is quite extreme

You can't say there is a cult. There is no cult. Give me one good reason why deadheads could be considered a cult and I'll stop yelling at you. Convince me and I'll give you 1000 free Why Not? Cookies. However, don't keep saying they're a cult but give no reasons why.

Sorry let me correct myself. I meant cult following, not cult. Deadheads take "band appreciation" to the next level. It becomes more than just about the music, or the artists.

EDIT: Or even the drugs. It become about being part of a "subculture". Starting to sound like a cult to you?

Why don't you ask my mom, a major deadhead, whether or not it was cult following. If wasn't. There's a difference between a cult following and a group of people that follow a band around the country. A cult following would be people that follow just because they want to be a member of the cult, not caring about the actual thing they're following so much. It's exactly what you say, it's about being part of a subculture. But the deadheads loved the music. They went to the shows for the music.

I really don't think you understand the difference between cult following and cult.

The definition most commonly used is:

A cult following is a group of fans devoted to a specific area of pop culture.

I understand the common definition, I have a different one. For example I would call the following of the Rocky Horror Picture Show a cult following. Those people really didn't care about the movie, it was more being a part of the following. I wouldn't include the deadheads.

The problem with that definition is that too many things become a cult. There would be a cult following for every single movie/artist/actor/anything because there is always a group of fans for anything related to pop culture.

Well yea, most celebs do have a cult following. (NOT A CULT)

But the deadheads were/are just a particularly large one. I mean they're way more devoted and large in number than most other bands' cult followings.

I'm not insulting the deadheads, don't take this the wrong way.
